Sasha’s Wheels!
// May 28th, 2009 // Loux Family News
Several weeks ago we took Sasha to Children’s Mercy Hospital for his “seating” clinic. Multiple professionals examined Sasha and consulted with one another regarding what type of wheelchair would be best for him. When the session ended they announced their recommendation …. A $25,000 Permobil K450! (permobli.com). After they rushed me to the sidelines for oxygen and a pep talk I began to recover from the sticker shock. This chair will enable Sasha to lower himself to ground level, exit the chair, combat crawl around, re-enter the chair, raise himself to any height in a range of 5ft, and be completely independent in his movement. A company brought out a demo chair last week for Sasha to test drive, and boy did he love it. It was so amazing to see this little 6 yr old boy who has never been able to decide his own movement, suddenly have independence and mobility. He caught on to the concept of driving quite quickly and it wasn’t long before he was telling us to follow him! Few things have made his eyes as bright as they were that day. As I’ve thought about the cost of this chair, I’m convinced that this is exactly the kind of thing God would do … Take a little boy from a hopeless situation where he would be sedated and tethered and forgotten in some cold institution, rescue him, give him a family, and then give him the hottest set of wheels on the block! Our Papa in heaven is so extravagant …. and He’s not on a budget! We are believing God for the full provision for Sasha’s chair. Our insurance will cover $5,000 of the cost, and Southgate church in St. Louis (one of the best churches on the planet!) took up a $6000 offering for the chair (Thank you Southgate!). This leaves $14,000 to go. I promise you, in the next two months I will be blogging about how the Lord provided for this …. He never fails! Check out the video of Sasha preparing for his “NASCAR” debut and look at how excited he is. If the Lord stirs your heart regarding this, pass it around to people you know who may want to get in on making this precious boy’s dreams come true. Blessings!

The representative from the Seating Clinic couldn't believe how quickly Sasha figured out cause and effect! He was driving around like he'd had the wheel chair forever. It was amazing!

This was amazing to watch! My little sister is named Sasha, so it warms my heart to hear you say “sash”. look at him go!
Oh how precious! I only wanted to see more! I am in agreement with you all! I know the Lord will provide! I look forward to reading the testimonies! Blessings & love to all! Sarah
Do you have a “Children’s Care” available where you live? Most states have a thing that provides for kids with high medical costs. Both of my boys got sport manual wheelchairs, one boy got new prosthetic legs, one got braces for both legs, and one got a “standing table” and I didn’t have to pay a dime. I’ll BET there are resources out there if you just look! Maybe call your state’s Medicaid office and ask them? Let us know! What fun to see Sasha go!!!!
Thanks Missy. We actually have been talking to the Medicaid office.
There is someone looking into possible help. We still haven’t heard from anyone. We are pursuing this hard! We know there is help. There has to be! Thanks so much for your input!
Oh that makes Uncle John and I so happy! Go Sasha!
Love this entry! So much so that I posted it to my blog and to FB so others can be blessed by it and by giving donations! May ALL the money come in according to His perfect timing and plan! Cannot wait to go for a walk with Sasha in his chair!
VERY BEAUTIFUL! God WILL provide!
How awesome! We’re praying for the money to come in. What a testimony this will be!
Thanks so much all of you for your prayers and sweet comments!
How precious!!!! The look on his face and those eyes tell the whole story. Needless to say there are tears in my eyes. God will supply for this chair, no doubt. He is faithful!!!
This is FANTASTIC!!! It is so cool to see him riding in his “new wheels” God is so good! Love you guys!
That is so awesome!!! I’ve just found this video the other day, which is related to your calling, watch it, you will be blessed: http://www.catholicvote.org/index.php?/site/homepage/

What a cool set of wheels! Does Silas has SB? I forgot. THe little boy we are adopting does and so I was just wondering.
Hi Christine,
Yes, Sasha has Spina Bifida. We have had our eye on your little guy and have prayed for him to find a great family. We were so happy to hear that you all had committed to him. When do you go to adopt him?
Hi Christine,
I was assuming that you meant Sasha when you asked if “Silas” had Spina Bifida. Silas has down syndrome, Sasha is the one with spina bifida.
Hello! This may sounds a bit odd but here it goes….
My husband use to worship with Derek at the IHOP in Indianapolis. He spend many hours worshiping and got to know your family and Derek. His name is Jonah Story.
Anyways I asked him the top five most influential people in his life and one of them was Derek Loux.
SO for his 30th birthday (July 4th) I am putting together letters of encouragement for him from his close friends to give him on his birthday and I was wondering if there is anyway I could get a hold of Derek? I know it would mean a lot to Jonah to have a letter from someone who impacted his spiritual life so much. Thank you for how you have impacted my husband…….
PS I hope this note gets to you ! I will also try and Facebook message it!
Hi Julie,
Derek said he would be honored to write something for Jonah on his birthday. Please let us know what address to email it to. God bless you!
Any news to report on giving towards this? We are praying with you guys about it! For real! Derek, rocked INTRO TO IHOP-KC today and Commission is excited to hear from Him tomorrow.
Wow! Sasha looks SO cool! Love the sunglasses! LOL That is one neat mobility device!
I have a surprise for you on my blog.
Would love to have an update on this if you get the time! Blessings!
Hi Loux Family,
Your posts are so entertaining! My name is Erin, and I am a college student with mild cerebral palsy. I’m a special education major and have hopes of becoming a disability services director of a university after graduate school. I have just launched a blog that is still getting started, but with the title “Empowering People and Changing Lives,” I hope that it will provide a wealth of resources for people who care for children, specifically those who are affected by disability. I will also be chronicling some personal experiences and will be sharing some thoughts about those along the way. Your blog has also been included in my blogroll, so I hope that together, we are able to collaborate to provide resources to those who are in similar situations. The blog’s address is http://empowerpeoplechangelives.blogspot.com. From there, you will be able to read the posts I have written, find out all about me, check out my blogroll, eventually look at many resources I have gathered, and contact me.
Look forward to reading many more of your posts! Happy blogging!
Hi Renee –
Glad to hear Sasha is doing better and doing so well in his new wheels. He looks so cool as a driver!
Thanks for being in touch while we were in RMI. It was so great to hear from you on email and meant so much to have the comments on our blog too. It made us feel connected back to the states. As happy as we are to be back home as a family, it is crazy how much I miss RMI. Lonely for the culture, people…all of it. I just fell in love with being there. And can’t wait to go back. Especially when Esme is older.
The photos of your family are amazing. It’s almost ridiculous how beautiful you all are!
Stay in touch.
Kate H.
can you email me your address? Love you guys.
Hi Katchen,
It’s great to hear from you. I don’t have your email address and I just read this message from you… sorry. Derek mentioned that he spoke with you or Kurt and gave you our address. I’m so glad to hear that you’re doing better! We were really praying for you. I can’t belive all you’ve gone through physically. We would love to see some pics of the kiddos. We need a family pic of you guys for our fridge
. Love and hugs!
I found you through Jess. I had to stop and read and share our story. As it is very similar. My husband Matthew has Cerebral Palsy. about 4 1/2 years ago he went into a w/c full time. State covered, God is good, no prob. Then he needed a power chair. We about fell over at the $25,000 cost as well. Our insurance covered NONE of it, and we had already remortgaged our house to buy a w/c conversion van so my hub could have independence.
ANYWAY, long story short, we were blessed by an amazing organization that could only have come through the Hand of God! Not only did my hub get a power chair, it has all the best things he needs, and is worth a whopping $35,000!!!! And we didn’t pay a cent! GOD IS GOOD! So hold out my sister in Christ, as I know our God is bigger then any amount of ZEROS that can be thrown at us!! I wanted to share the video I made of this miraculous gift from God!!! Funny you mentioned Nascar.
And can I just say, now with his power chair, it was the first time in 4 years I’d been able to walk beside my husband, and hold his hand…
In Christ,
Talley Mac
